News/ Upcoming Events for the Week of May 5th

Class,

1. Upcoming Field Trip
Last week, I handed out Permission Forms for a field trip to Kortright Centre for the Geomapping Activity. This will occur next Monday May 12th. This ties into Geography and Math because in groups, you will be given a handheld GPS device to help you find hidden treasures, or "caches" in this conservation centre. All Intermediates are taking part in this activity.

2. S.T.E.M Roller Coaster  Projects 
You should be working on completing your Science Roller Coaster Projects. Please keep in mind that your projects are now due a day earlier: Thursday May 8th, 2014. Our class has been selected to showcase this as a part of S.T.E.M  Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) at our school.

3. Track and Field
On Tuesday May 6th, the school will be having a Track and Field Day for grades 1-6. Grade 7 and 8 students will be taking part in the events through the Physical Education program and will not participating on Tuesday.

4. Morning Meal Contributions
Morning Meal Contributions are due tomorrow for the month of May. If you would like to receive a snack, please return your envelopes to me so I can add you to the list of those participating in the program.

1. On Monday, we will be having some time in-class to work on the Roller Coaster Project during our double Art Period. It is advisable to bring in materials/ideas that you would like to work on to maximize your in-class time. 

2. On Tuesday, those in Young Women on the Move are going to their Conference with Ms.Seow. This is a full day excursion.

3. On Wednesday, the Co-Ed Volleyball team have a tournament all day. Good luck!

4. Next Saturday April 12th, the Glee Club will be performing at the Show Choir Canada Nationals where they will be competing with other Junior/Middle Schools. Best of luck to those who be competing. 

5. Reminder: Homework Club is available during the lunch hour for any Junior/Intermediate students who need a space to complete homework and/or needs extra assistance. The club runs in our classroom (Room 32) every Friday. Please refer to the Important Resources page for the other teachers who run it during the week.

    Homework Club 
    (11:30 am - 12:30 pm)

    Homework Club is available during the lunch hour for any Junior/Intermediate students. The location rotates, depending on the teacher supervising. 
    • Please bring your lunch and all the materials (textbooks, paper, pencils) you need because you are not to visit your lockers during the hour. 
    • There is to be no cellphone use, and no video/computer games.

    News/ Upcoming Events for the Week of March 17th

    1. There is an on-going Dance Presentation that you and your groups should be working on. Now that the Powerpoint presentation is complete, please aim at finding an appropriate song to now choreograph a number!


    2. We will be beginning a Roller Coaster Mini-project next Monday as our culminating task for our current Science unit. Have an idea about the group you may want to work with. Also, brainstorm ideas about materials you may want to use...(think toilet paper rolls, newspaper, bottle cans etc.) Remember, the idea is to create a track for a "marble" car. 


    3. Next Wednesday March 26th as a part of our Human Geography Unit on Population Distribution and Patterns, both Grade 8 classes will be embarking on field trips to explore our downtown core. While the Extended French students are visiting Toronto's Business District, we will be exploring Kensington Market & Chinatown. These are two events that are planned through the Harbourfront Centre.
